Practicing Muay Thai for Weight Loss: Cardio & Fat Burning Workout
It is the ideal cardiovascular activity for its repeated routines of punching, kicking and sparring. The moments are done in 3-5 rounds. Intense interval speeds up the heart rate, slows it down, and then speeds it up again. This conditioning form boosts metabolism and burns more fat than constant exercise. It sheds off that extra weight while building up your endurance.
Marcela Soto Prats, our nutritionist and Muay Thai World Champion, recommends these five moves done in 3-5 rounds for weight loss:
- A series of hard and fast kicks in the pads or the bag. Give it all you’ve got.
- Thirty-second punching drills. Allow yourself only 10 seconds rest in between rounds.
- Pad work with a trainer where you give your absolute 100%.
- Repetitions of 100-200 knees and front kicks in the bag.
- Rounds of 100-200 metre speed run. Feel free to pull a car tire as you run for extra weight.
Effective Strength & Endurance Training
Strength training is essential to building lean muscles. It burns fat even while your body is resting. In Muay Thai, the body tenses up the muscles through each strike, kick, or punch. It mimics weightlifting or resistance training. It uses every part of the body – all eight limbs – and works your core. In other words, you’ve got a powerful total body workout. Each session lasts 45 minutes. Practice it long enough, and your body will build up endurance.
Stick to 2-3 training sessions per work if your goal is to lose weight through Muay Thai. Continue other exercise routines. If you forgo other exercises and only stick to Muay Thai, do it 5-6 times a week.
Build Self Discipline & Positive Confidence
In professional Muay Thai scenes, athletes control the body, diet, and daily routines. Their training extends beyond their bodies. It includes mental discipline to build self-confidence. The mind achieves satisfaction as the body becomes stronger. While some practitioners took up this exercise to lose weight at the beginning, they end up becoming fighters. With commitment and discipline, you’ll soon see the fruits of your labor. Fight to lose weight. Fight to keep it off.
